Understanding Digestive Issues
Digestive issues can stem from a variety of factors, including diet, stress, infections, gut dysbiosis, medications, underlying health conditions, or deeper internal causes. Many patients present with previous diagnoses such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis (UC) or inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). These diseases and others can manifest with symptoms like bloating, acid reflux (GERD), gas, diarrhea, constipation, rectal bleeding, and abdominal pain, significantly impacting daily life and overall well-being.
Our expert practitioners specialize in diagnosing and treating digestive disorders through holistic and integrative medicine approaches.
How Acupuncture Can Help
Acupuncture is a time-tested treatment that involves inserting thin needles into specific points on the body to stimulate healing and promote digestive health. For digestive issues, acupuncture and herbal medicine work by:
- Regulating gastrointestinal motility: Acupuncture can help regulate the movement of food and waste through the digestive tract, alleviating symptoms like bloating, gas, and constipation.
- Balancing gut microbiota: Acupuncture has been shown to influence the balance of gut bacteria, promoting a healthy microbiome essential for digestion and overall well-being.
- Reducing inflammation: Acupuncture can help reduce inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract, which is often associated with conditions like gastritis, IBS, or Crohn’s disease.
- Stress reduction: Acupuncture is effective in reducing stress levels, which can contribute to digestive issues such as acid reflux, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), or functional dyspepsia.
- Treating the Root Cause: Oftentimes, digestive complaints are due to internal pathologies that are only manifesting as digestive upset. Chinese medicine will address these fundamental issues and restore balance to the entire system.
